It seems the vigilantes are not changing their ways.

Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strict words against ‘gau rakshaks’, it seems the vigilantes are not changing their ways.

On Wednesday, a group of alleged cow vigilantes beat up three persons, including a minor.

A day after Eid, the two men were beaten when they were on their way to dump the remains of animals, sacrificed in their madrasa in Outer Delhi.

The victims Hafiz Abdul Khalid, 25, and Ali Hassan, 35, are residents of Prem Nagar-2 of outer district. Khalid teaches students at a madarsa, while Ali is a driver.

Four persons have been arrested and charged with attempt to commit culpable homicide, punishable with up to seven years in jail.

The incident took place on Wednesday evening, when a group of 25 people chased the three people who were in an auto, loaded with remains of buffalos. One of them, 14-year-old Abdus Salam, managed to flee.

According to reports, the men first dragged the two out of a tempo. They reportedly called in more men and soon, around 24 vigilantes allegedly stripped and beat the two victims with sticks and iron rods.

This is the first such attack in an area under the jurisdiction of Delhi police since complaints of cow vigilantism have emerged from different parts of the country.

“One of them started interrogating us on where we were going while the other called their friends. I overheard him asking the person on the other side to get more people. Soon a large number of men gathered and started thrashing us,” Khalid told Times Of India.

He said that they were dragged out by their hair, made to crouch and then beaten.

Khalid and Hassan have been admitted in the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and would be kept under observation for the next few days.
